WATCH THIS: I Hate Chuck

ChuckThe TV Show. Chuck on NBC. I absolutely hate it.

And I heart it so much too.

Discovered these songs as my sister and her boyfriend partook in the newest despicable show they are addicted to: Chuck. They’ve downloaded every episode ever and are currently watching them at a feverish pace. I tried to avoid getting sucked in at the beginning because I know Chuck was developed by the same dude – and fellow USC alumn – that brought us “The OC” but I failed miserably once I got a good look at the leading lady, Yvonne Strahovski, and instantly removed by ban on blondes. Wow, that chick is fine. Way too fine for title-character Chuck, but somehow she sees something in him and every single episode consists of some sort of almost affection between them that never fully materializes and leaves me with a pain in my side and feeling blue all over… This guy knows what I’m talking about! This guy DEFINITELY knows what I’m talking about… Needless to say, I don’t like Chuck but I have to watch every episode before they cancel the show for good and I have to go somewhere else for prime time torture. Oh, but enjoy these songs in the mean time.

The Thermals – “Now We Can See.” Infectious. Just like freakin’ Chuck. Damn, I hate Chuck. If there is one thing Josh Schwartz can do successfully it’s pick good music for his crappy TV shows. I’m just hitting on three tracks today from a broad collection of great and memorable tunes. I encourage you all to check out the complete body of music from the first two seasons. You’ll find a few stinkers but the many gems like this one from The Thermals will vastly outweigh them. And this video is pretty cool too. So I’d say I hooked you up twice, America. You’re welcome.

Ra Ra Riot – “Can You Tell.” Actually heard this song many months ago but forgot it for a while until it popped up in another horrible but enthralling Chuck episode. Damn, I hate Chuck. I liked this video much more the first time I saw it, but the song is still rather good and deserves to be noticed. Can’t remember the exact episode this song played in right now, but I’m sure it consisted of Chuck flashing on something scary then going against common sense and getting into some kind of shenanigans that John Casey and the hottest blonde ever Sarah have to save him from. Hilarity probably ensued and then a real hipster song fades us out of the episode just as Chuck and Sarah almost kiss but never really do and the one good testicle I have left makes it’s way even farther up into my body cavity in the faint hope that when it does finally explode from all this Chuck blueballin’ goodness it takes a vital organ or two with it and puts me out of my Chuck induced misery forever…

Ah! I can dream…

Frightened Rabbit – “Keep Yourself Warm.” In case I haven’t mentioned it already… Damn, I hate Chuck. But damn, it’s got some memorable moments because of its great music. And the montage constructed around the edited-version of this Frightened Rabbit song is a particular good one. Frightened Rabbit never made an official vid for this song, so here’s one of their better live performances. But I highly suggest you download the real track and just let it swell and crash around you. It’s a really good track. And it’s unedited meaning is WAY more interesting than the edited. And it reminds all of us of a very important fact:

“You won’t find love in a hole.”

Unless it’s with Chuck.

Damn.
